Convert PDF to PDF/A

A normal PDF can depend on fonts, JavaScript or screen-tied colors. In five or ten years a court, a public tender or an archive vault may refuse it. PDF/A-2b is the ISO archival profile: fonts embedded, no external dependencies, readable without the original software. Drop the PDF; we convert it in isolation and check the PDF/A identification before download.

No account on the public uploader. Guest jobs stay within five conversions and 250 MB per day. Business rates start at €0.80/GB for OST → PST.

When a PDF is the wrong container for the next decade

Everyday PDFs are built to look right on today's screen. They may call external fonts, keep interactive scripts, or store colors that only make sense on one device. That is fine for a slide. It is a liability for an invoice, a signed contract, or a file a public body must keep.

This page is that recovery path: one PDF in, one PDF/A-2b out. It is not a document-management vault. Use Densem for Business when you have a folder of files to archive.

What we check

The worker identifies the file as PDF, converts it with Ghostscript to the PDF/A-2b profile, then looks for PDF/A identification in the result. A failed validation does not produce a silent half-file.

Encrypted, empty or corrupt PDFs are stopped with a diagnostic instead of a fake success.

Limits of a guest conversion

Guest tasks are for a single file. Inputs and outputs expire after delivery. Do not treat this as long-term archive storage — keep your own copy of the PDF/A.

Questions

Is this PDF/A-1b or PDF/A-2b?

PDF/A-2b (ISO 19005-2). It is the profile most administrations and archive systems accept today. PDF/A-1b is older and more lossy.

Does this OCR a scanned PDF?

No. We convert the existing PDF into an archival container. Image-only scans stay image-only; they become PDF/A, they do not gain a text layer.

Can I leave the file here as my archive?

No. Guest downloads expire. PDF/A is the format you store in your own system, not a Densem locker.
